Joy Orbison, golden boy of that spectral territory between house, garage and dubstep is set to release a new EP on Will Saul’s Aus Music label.
Title track ‘The Shrew Would Have Cushioned the Blow’ will instantly appeal to fans of Orbison’s much acclaimed ‘Hyph Mngo’ (which featured pretty high on our Top 100 Tracks of 2009) with its dramatic female vocal and celestial synths, while ‘So Derobe’ is on a skippier house tip, sporting some serious sub-bass under its click-heavy grooves. Put it this way, if you liked Deadboy’s FACT mix from last week, then you’ll be into this.
The EP is completed by a remix from Werk Discs founder Actress, who provides a ‘Neu Haus So Glo Mix’ in his trademark compressed, monotone techno style.
In more Joy Orbison news, the next release on the Dldrms label he co-runs will be a single by George Fitzgerald, which you can hear here. ‘The Shrew Would Have Cushioned the Blow’ will be released on February 22.
