The first acts have been announced for the 2010 Melt festival in Germany. Of these, the most intriguing is the new “dubstep project” from The xx‘s Jamie Smith.
The xx are one of the headlining bands for the festival, but Smith will be presenting his solo dubstep project as part of the Modeselektor-curated Melt! Selektor stage. Also appearing on this stage will be Four Tet, Jackmaster, Martyn, Kode9, Mala and of course Modeselektor themselves, who will be “battling” with Berlin artist collective Bonaparte.
The other key headliners for the festival are Massive Attack and Booka Shade, both of which will be playing in support of their new albums (Heligoland and More! respectively). Matias Aguayo, Pantha Du Prince, Lindstrom & Christabelle, Foals and Chris Cunningham are among the other live highlights, and there are DJ sets to look forward to from Ricardo Villalobos, Crookers and Carl Craig feat. ‘Mad’ Mike Banks.
Oh, and pretty much the entire Ostgut-Ton stable will be turning out to present “the sound of Berghain and Panorama bar”, with Marcel Dettmann, Shed (live), Steffi, Ben Klock, Norman Nodge, Tama Sumo, ND Baumecker, DJ Pete, Boris, Nick Hoppner and Marcel Fengler. More Berlin for your buck.
Melt takes place on July16-18 at Ferropolis, an amazing site in Germany set against the backdrop of “five huge hulking coal mining diggers that tower into the sky”. Weekend tickets are a snip at 94 Euros, and are available to buy here (where you can also find out more practical information about the festival).
UPDATE: The xx have had to cancel the the remaining dates on their current European tour, due to the death of Romy Madley Croft’s father.
