Jimmy Edgar will release a brand new studio album through !K7 on July 26. It’s called XXX.
The 26-year-old first came to the world’s attention with a string of releases for Warp Records back in the mid-noughties, beginning with the ‘Access Rhythm’ 12″ (2004) and culminating in the 2005 album Color Strip. Since 2006 Edgar has been more nomadic, releasing records on deep techno imprint Semantica and M-nus sub-label Items & Things, among others. XXX will be his first offering on !K7.
The album is largely a solo affair but Latvia’s Anet and XL-signed, New York-hailing R&B chanteuse Azealia contribute vocals to ‘Physical Motion’.
“Whenever I have worked with women and art, they have this way of putting balance into everything,” says Edgar, before reeling off a list of the driving forces behind XXX. “Celibacy. Love and Loss. A myriad of intense relationships. Home studio on mostly analog equipment, finished digitally. Some recorded on tape. Some recorded frustrated, sick, broke, pissed off, in love.”
