Hudson Mohawke – ‘Thunder Bay’


Warp have announced a new EP from Hudson Mohawke, entitled Satin Panthers.

Satin Panthers is Hud Mo’s first major offering since his 2009 debut album, Butter, a prog and fusion-inspired R&B fantasia which, for all its flaws, was unarguably ambitious and original. ‘Thunder Bay’, which you can also stream above, bodes well for the EP: it’s a walloping club track with big, bashy horn sounds, lurid synths, hard-snapping drums and – in its closing seconds – some nicely deployed Mentasm bass.

Just Blaze is apparently impressed by the young Glaswegian’s new styles, recently tweeting: “I AM LISTENING TO NEW @MOANHAWKE AND ALMOST JUST GOT MOVED TO TEARS. WOW. THESE ARE THE CHORDS I HEAR IN DREAMS THAT I FORGET WHEN I WAKE”. Fair enough.
