The seventh release in the FRKWYS series is the work of a “synth ensemble” starring James Ferraro, Dan ‘Oneohtrix Point Never’ Lopatin, Samuel Godin, Laurel Halo and legendary American composer David Borden.

For the unfamiliar, the frequently (geddit?) inspirational FRKWYS is the work of New York record label RVNG Intl., and specialises in unexpected but appropriate collaborations between artists of different ages, the results released on 12″ vinyl. Past FRKWYS releases have paired ARP with Antony Moore, Julianna Barwick with Ikue Mori, and Psychic Ills with Juan Aktins.

Vol. 7 then, initially started as a discussion between RVNG Intl. and Lopatin where the work of David Borden in Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece Co. and his Music for Amplified Keyboard Instruments album were mutually celebrated. The project naturally became more collaborative, with various of Lopatin’s contemporaries (namely Halo, Ferraro and Godin) added to affairs.

FRKWYS Vol. 7 was recorded in Brooklyn’s Atlantic Sound Studio across two days in August 2010. The five-person synth ensemble “played infinitely, taking breaks only to discuss next directions, past pursuits, and, of course, gear. During tour breaks the following fall and winter, the endless hours of recordings were paired down to the selections of FRKWYS Vol. 7. The music of the album represents full session takes, edited only for time.”

The limited edition LP version of FRKWYS Vol. 7 is packaged in thick black jackets with a two-color adhesive wrap. 50 subscriber LPs come in leatherette jackets.
