One of this year’s most intriguing releases came in the form of Patten’s new album.

Titled GLAQJO XAACSSO, it found the No Pain in Pop artist pushing a brand of compressed techno that sounded like a lot of different things (Clark, Autechre, Actress) while also sounding completely individual, and although it wasn’t perfect, it – in the words of FACT reviewer Steve Shaw – “presented a particular kind of unbridled, frenzied passion – something music always needs more of.”
