Mala’s forthcoming album of Cubano-dubstep is one of this month’s most intriguing new releases.
Mala In Cuba promises an admixture of Cuban instrumentation and low-end rumble. Tilting betwen fluttery sketches and heavier fare, it shows the DMZ founder on venturesome form.
Aware that this is likely to be a significant release – Brownswood boss Gilles Peterson has described it as the most important record he’s had a hand in since Roni Size’s 1997 landmark New Forms – the label have announced a deluxe box set edition of the record. The set will arrive on 180g vinyl, and will be split across four LPs. The box will also arrive with a free download code.
You can listen to beefy album cut ‘The Tunnel’ here. FACT TV also caught up with Mala and Brownswood head Gilles Peterson to discuss the record earlier this year; watch the results below.
Mala In Cuba is due on September 11.
