High energy post-rock ensemble Don Caballero have pulled a vintage “authorized bootleg” out of the vaults.
Initially active between 1993 and 2000, Don Caballero subsequently reconvened in 2003 and have been powering away ever since. The Pittsburgh band’s take on math-rock (exemplified on their sprawling 1995 classic Don Caballero 2) was by turns meticulous and chaotic. They were also once home to axeman Ian Williams, currently scaling greater heights with cerebral Warp trio Battles.
As Exclaim report, Don Cab have a live record in the works, charmingly titled Gang Banged With A Headache. The disc documents a 2003 live recording in Chicago, and features 10 songs from across the discography. The lineup featured on the disc is Gene Doyle, Jason Jouver, Damon Che and Jeff Ellsworth (who has since left the band). Don Cab’s last release with 2008’s Punkgasm, which, for the first time, featured vocal contributions.
Gang Banged With a Headache, And Live is due on November 27 through Joyful Noise on CD, regular vinyl, and special bone-coloured vinyl. Opening track ‘ Fire Back About Your New Baby’s Sex’ can be downloaded here.
