Neneh Cherry, Sweden’s greatest and grandest chanteuse, has teamed up with Four Tet on a feverish new track.
Cherry made a bold return to the fray on last year’s undeniable The Cherry Thing LP, which saw her try her hand at cover versions of everyone from Suicide to Madvillain. Four Tet subsequently cooked up a muggy, disorientating remix of album highlight ‘Dream Baby Dream’.
The pair’s paths cross once again on “Nina’. Supplementary vocals come from Afrika Baby Bam of seminal Golden Age hip-hop group The Jungle Brothers. Cherry and Baby Bam channel the spirit of Wanda Robinson and Gil Scott Heron, reciting soapbox poetry with style and verve. Four Tet’s instrumental, meanwhile, is a blur of processed African drums and half-heard bass. Wonderful.
