Collapsing our in-tray first thing on a Thursday morning: a strong contender for the heftiest box set of the year, courtesy of Mr. Bob Dylan.
Bob Dylan Complete Album Collection Vol. One does exactly what it says on the (sizeable) tin: collects the bulk of Dylan’s official recorded output in one place.
Columbia and Legacy Recordings’ package includes 35 studio albums, running from 1962’s self-titled debut through to last year’s Tempest (and including 1973’s Dylan, which gets its debut North American CD pressing). 14 of the albums have been freshly remastered for the occasion.
The set also includes six live albums, ranging from 1972’s Before The Flood through to his 1995 MTV Unplugged collection, and a 2xCD compilation of non-album cuts, titled Side Tracks. A hardcover book with liner notes for each album is also included in the bundle. Dylan’s first eight albums (from Bob Dylan through to John Wesley Harding) will also be separately available in mono as Bob Dylan – The Original Mono Recordings.
Those without the lucre/shelf space to go the whole hog can also still get in on the action. The label is planning to release decade-specific versions of the set, with Dylan’s 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s-2000s output being collected in four respective box sets.
Bob Dylan Complete Album Collection Vol. One is due on November 5; a full list of the package’s contents is below, with asterisks denoting albums that have been remastered. Volume Two is scheduled to arrive next year, and will perform a similar trick with Dylan’s extensive Bootleg series. [via Exclaim]
