Xzibit marks the spot.
Infographic factory Pop Chart Lab have turned their energies towards organising rap sobriquets before: their Grand Taxonomy of Rap Names co-ordinated 282 rap names, and more than doubled the haul on their Magnificent Map of Rap Names. Their latest endeavour, though, takes the biscuit.
The Massive Map of Hip-Hop Monikers collects the names of over 1000s rappers, and arranges them into some semblance of semantic order. From Da’unda’dogg to Brotha Lynch Hung, names are organised thematically under umbrella categories like ‘Schooling’, ‘Crime’, ‘Age’ and ‘Animal, Vegetable Or Mineral’. Sub-sections include ‘5s’ (Jurassic 5), ‘Guys Named Rob’ (Rob Bass) and, best of all, Distasteful Qualities (Naughty By Nature’. It’s a sight to behold, basically – a stunning constellation of Lils, Slims, Yungs and Dawgs. Choice grabs from the chart are below.
