The prodigal son breaks his silence, but don’t get too excited just yet.
Yesterday Jay Electronica returned after a three year hiatus by posting a new song on his Soundcloud account.
Titled ‘better in tune w the infinite’, the song sees the New Orleans-born but now London-based rapper drop verses over a Ryuichi Sakamoto song, ‘Bibo No Aozora’. The song, entirely performed on piano and strings, was used in the 2006 movie Babel.
This is a trick the rapper used before in his 2007 debut, Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), where he rapped over Jon Brion’s soundtrack for the movie Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind.
The result this time round is a fairly understated track on which Jay Electronica gets straight to the point by addressing the reasons behind his silence. He was last officially heard on 2011 with ‘Prelude To A Freestyle’, rapping over Kanye’s ‘Devil In A New Dress’, having signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation in 2010.
