Sound of Sumner.
Cheery news for a miserable Monday – two generations of dance-rock royalty may well be joining forces. In a video interview with Consequence of Sound, Bernard Sumner has heavily hinted that New Order have been collaborating with quondam LCD Soundsystem leader and Despacio man James Murphy.
When asked whether a Murphy collaboration might ever be on the cards, Sumner replied: “I can’t talk about any of that just yet, but there is news, we’re in the process.” Which, considering all those disingenuous Arcade Fire denials a few years back, pretty much constitutes proof positive in our book.
Exciting as a collaboration with New Order might be, it’s fairly pedestrian news compared to Murphy’s most recent project – 400+ hours of music with IBM, turning data sourced from US Open tennis matches into . Sumner will release his autobiography, Chapter And Verse (New Order, Joy Division And Me), on September 25.
Update: DFA Records have issued a spiky tweet denying the reports.
