FlyLo details his involvement on To Pimp A Butterfly.

As he’s wont to do, Flying Lotus has taken to Twitter to share some inside information about the making of Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly (which was accidentally leaked late last night).

The producer says that he produced opener ‘Wesley’s Theme’, which features Thundercat and funk legend George Clinton. “When I played him that beat he asked me who I imagined on it,” he writes. “I laughed and said [George Clinton]… I never thought it would actually happen… That’s already a dream come true.”

FlyLo explains that he was helping Lamar with his live visual show when the latter opened for Kanye West on the Yeezus tour. “I was really surprised how he gave zero fucks about the media circus surrounding the tour. Was real low key trying to create, the whole time,” he says.

Tantalizingly, he says that his role on the album could have been much more significant: “I played him a folder of beats that I was keeping close for my next @xCaptainMurphyx project. Gave him all the beats like fuxk it… Sad thing about that folder of music is I heard he recorded to every one of those songs. Probably never gon hear those. Ooof… I’ll probably use those beats for something else but damn. It could have been.”
