The latest release on her new imprint has an unusual inspiration.
Nina Kraviz will release a gatefold LP entitled De Niro Is Concerned on May 18 via her трип label, following last year’s The Deviant Octopus EP.
“The idea of this compiled album/concept compilation was born during a late night conversation,” Kraviz tells Resident Advisor. “I was talking to Reynier (AKA Deniro) about when the body is set for a good night sleep but the head rebels against that boring plan and all these strange scenarios start popping up in a quick cycle of images, phrases and sounds.”
She continues: “This time it was about one of those moments when you suddenly realise that you can’t continue as you did before and there is no way back. I was in a 4 AM Facebook chat with Reynier and we both thought Robert De Niro might have had a moment like that…”
De Niro Is Concerned features tracks by Kraviz, Deniro, Steve Stoll and more, including ‘Barcode Population’, a track originally released on Subvery in the ’90s that Kraviz calls “probably the most special, mysterious track on the album.” Stream Deniro’s acidic ‘Dumans’ below; the tracklist follows.
