Apple continues to develop its Spotify rival behind the scenes.
If a report from Music Business Worldwide is correct, Zane Lowe isn’t the only BBC employee to have defected to Apple’s new streaming service – the company has reportedly hired four Radio 1 producers to work on it too.
One of the four is believed to be Lowe’s former producer James Bursey, who left the station to join Lowe in Los Angeles on Friday. Two of the other three are believed to be Natasha Lynch and Kieran Yeates, who worked on the BBC Introducing strand for highlighting up-and-coming artists and the Huw Stephens show respectively. They are expected to be working with in Apple’s London office, and their expertise would give Apple a clear advantage in developing any editorial they might be planning.
Firm details on Apple’s forthcoming streaming venture are thin on the ground, but Trent Reznor is also involved, and it has reportedly poached James Foley, head of editorial at rival service Deezer. We should know more on June 8, when the service is expected to be launched at Apple’s annual WWDC event.
