Sydney three-piece share an otherworldly dancefloor cut.
Black Vanilla is the collaborative project from producers Marcus Whale, Jarred Beeler and Lavurn Lee. Whale is perhaps best known as one half of the duo Collarbones whilst Beeler (aka DJ Plead) makes music under the moniker of Marseilles. Lavurn Lee’s bass-heavy creations as Cassius Select recently landed on a 12″ for Unknown To The Unknown, with his work as Guerre also finding plenty of admirers within his home city.
The group originally began as a ‘live only’ concept, but quickly morphed into something suited for more than just the club. Black Vanilla self-released their first full-length, Black On Black, in 2013. They are currently working away at their second mixtape, which is set to arrive later this year. Ahead of that release, the trio have shared a brand new cut entitled ‘Slug’.
‘Slug’ combines outbursts of spoken-word vocals with deft percussion, cloaked in a layer of doom. The ominous number highlights the trio’s sense for rhythmic precision, which comes to the fore as the track progresses.
