As part of the label’s 5th birthday celebrations, Gobstopper Records are giving Bloom’s ‘Quartz’ a belated vinyl release.

Originally only released digitally, ‘Quartz’ was part of a wave of experimental instrumental grime tracks – see also Logos’ ‘Kowloon’, Slackk’s Raw Missions EP and Samename and Sublo’s early dubs – that helped prompt the Boxed sound/movement/wave/woteva-u-want-to-call-it. We went pretty nuts for it at the time, too.

‘Quartz’ also started a run of excellent records for Mr Mitch’s Gobstopper label. Formed in 2010, Gobstopper had already released quality – see Deset and Mr Mitch’s early singles – but its post-Bloom run of records from Iglew, Tarquin, Dark0, Strict Face and more upped the levels, and felt like a second phase for the label.

The vinyl version of ‘Quartz’ comes backed with Bloom’s VIP mix and a Rabit remix, and will be released on October 2. Stream it below. Gobstopper have also released a vinyl issue of Mr Mitch’s ‘The Man Waits’ with remixes by Gage, Iglew and Logos.
