The experimental percussion track gets a bunch of makeovers from some of electronic music’s most interesting producers.

Squarepusher, Oneohtrix Point Never, Jóhann Jóhannsson and more have all put their own respective spins on experimental percussion track ‘Timber’ for a collection of remixes. The original was composed by Michael Gordon, a member of New York City contemporary classical collective Bang on a Can and is played on six wooden 2x4s.

Gordon’s five-part original has now be re-recorded by group Mantra Percussion, who have been performing it live for half a decade. Now the piece will get new life through a prism of remixes, including ones from Tim Hecker and recent FACT mix-ers Deerhoof.

Timber Remixed is out October 28 via Cantaloupe Music. It will be released on 2xCD featuring 12 remixes and a disc of Mantra Percussion’s performance of ‘Timber’ at 2014’s Bang on a Can Marathon. A limited edition, hand-numbered vinyl will also be available featuring “six key remixes”, as well, but the artists have not been unveiled.
