Cold Cave and Prurient‘s Stars Explode, originally released last year as a tour-only cassette limited to 100 copies, has been re-issued on vinyl.
The two-sided release finds the duo steering clear of the flamboyant, albeit gothic-hued, electro-pop of last year’s fantastic Loves Come Close album, and pursuing instead a droning, pulsating ambient sound which is actually very well-honed and satisfying. The vinyl reissue adds one exclusive track that wasn’t on the original cassette edition.
Prurient is the alter ego of Dominic Fernow, a member of Cold Cave’s touring band and, as proprietor of the Hospital Productions record store and label, one of the most influential figures in the underground noise and power electronics scene. As well as the above Cold Cave collaboration, Hospital this month re-issue Prurient’s cheerily titled The History of Aids LP, a landmark release nonetheless recommended only to those with strong ears and stomachs both.
