FACT readers probably know Kiki Hitomi [above, right] best as one third of King Midas Sound, the dub trio also featuring Kevin ‘The Bug’ Martin and Roger Robinson who last year put out an excellent debut album on Hyperdub.

This looks set to change when Dokkebi Q – Hitomi’s project with producer Gorgonn [above, left] – release their new album, Hardcore Cherry Bon Bon. Dokebbi Q actually predate King Midas Sound, and have a fierce reputation in the live setting where their twisted blend of ragga, noise, digi-dub and more is overwhelming.

Based in Hackney but originally from Tokyo, Dokkebi Q have released several EPs, but this will be their first album. While recording it, Hitomi also found time to work further with Kevin Martin (the pair of them also record as Black Chow, who featured on last year’s Hyperdub compilation, 5, and have also collaborated on a recent 12″ for Loefah’s Swamp 81 label) and collaborate with Starkey (she guests on his new album, Ear Drums and Black Holes) while Gorgonn formed Devilman with infamous noisenik DJ Scotch Egg.

Hardcore Cherry Bon Bon will be released on May 10. Fans of Vex’d, Iration Steppas and Kevin Martin’s work in general should dig this, but there’s also a demented pop side to Dokkebi Q that should find fans further afield. Tracklist follows the artwork.
