Mathew Jonson will release his debut solo album, Agents of Time, via Wagon Repair on June 7.

Given how long Jonson’s been an established star in the techno firmament, it’s hard to believe that it really is his debut. The Canadian producer, currently based in Berlin, first garnered attention with his 2002 single ‘She Is He’ and quickly ascended to premier league status with experimental but high-impact 12″s like Alpine Rocket (2003), Typerope (2003) and Decompression (2004) . He has recorded two albums with his Cobblestone Jazz collective (the most recent, The Modern Deep Left Quartet, is out this week),

According to a press release, Agents of Time finds Jonson exploring “slower, more expansive, more contemplative territory” than he’s generally known for. Notable tracks include ‘Marionette (The Beginning)’, an early version of one of Jonson’s best-known tracks, pulsating ambient opener ‘Love In The Future’, and “Sunday Disco Romance”, which boasts a bass/vocoder line that “winks in the direction of Michael Jackson”. ‘Night Vision’ is a sub-100BPM blast of funereal electro, while ‘New Model Robots’ promises to “unite RZA’s Ghost Dog score and Autechre’s early work in surprising ways”.
