Magic Wire Recordings is a new label brought to you by Lone.
Lone, real name Matt Cutler, last year released an album of prismatic post-hip-hop through Actress’s Werk Discs imprint, placing him in the company of Zomby, Lukid and Actress himself. More recently, Kode9 chose to open his DJ-Kicks mix CD with the Nottingham producer’s extraordinary, steel-drum-augmented house jam ‘Once In A While’.
The first release on Magic Wire is a 10″ from Cutler. Described in a press release “two slabs of nostalgic neu haus and early 90s hardcore”, ‘Pineapple Crush’ and ‘Angel Brain’ find Lone in richly melodic and engaging form. The lead track manages sound as contrarily drowsy and driving as vintage Theo Parrish, and the more outspoken flipside combines choppy funky house drums with euphoric rave stabs. It’s no surprise that the record has found its way into the boxes of Joy Orbison, Alexander Nut and the LuckyMe family, among others.
