San Francisco’s Dean J. Grenier, better known as DJG, has been producing his bewitching brand of dubstep under the radar for years, years in which innumerable brilliant dubplates have accumulated.

Grenier has generously chosen to give these away as a set of two EPs called Voids.  The first one focuses on club-oriented tracks while the second, no less danceable, trades in moodier fare.

‘With U’ is taken from Voids Two, a spare track that isn’t too far-flung from the recent output of Scuba’s Hotflush label.  Built out of simple elements – elegant drums, gauzy pads – the song trudges a minuscule ascension against a tumbling bassline, with brief moments of freefall marked by vocal outbursts. DJG has always had a tendency towards the stiff precision of d’n’b, a trait that lends ‘With U’ a laser-sharp focus without sacrificing its vital sensuality.

DJG is giving away Voids for free download on his website djgsound.com today (Wednesday, September 15), featuring ‘With U’ along with eleven other tracks that span the dubstep spectrum from moody to banging, and a few gorgeous experiments as well.
