Cold Cave will return on April 4 with a brand new album: Cherish The Light Years.
It will be released on Matador Records, who also issued the second edition of their 2009 debut LP proper, Love Comes Close. Over the past two years, the band’s influence has turned out to be enormous, their cult success heralding a whole new wave of underground synth-pop and goth-not-goth acts from the US and beyond.
Recorded with producer Chris Coady in New York, Cold Cave’s sophomore effort is reportedly mainman Wes Eisold’s love letter to his adopted city. Having gained confidence through extensive touring, Eisold places his vocals at the forefront of the new songs, while the music itself sounds evolved, the ‘Cave’s trademark synth and drum machine interplay sounding at once more refined and powerful than ever before, and bolstered by a greater guitar presence. Eisold is joined by long-time collaborators Dominic ‘Prurient’ Fernow (electronics) and Jennifer Clavin (backing vocals, synth), with guitars from Moss Icon’s Tony Joy, Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Nick Zinner, former Hatebreed man Sean Martin and Glassjaw’s Daryl Palumbo (also on bass), plus Matt Sweeney (bass) and Gae Licata (drums).
The album will shortly be available to pre-order in a handmade vinyl edition, limited to 123 copies and boasting a special cover designed by the band, via the official Cold Cave website. Keep your eye on that, they’ll fly out.
