Things are starting to get very real for Odd Future.
The hip-hop crew (full name: Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) have spent the last couple of years building up a cult following through their online presence, mostly due to a steady flow of free albums and mixtapes. Arguably the best of those was Tyler, The Creator’s Bastard, and it’s Tyler, the pack’s leader, who seems to be gathering most steam on the back of it.
Last night, he uploaded the video for a new track, ‘Yonkers’ to YouTube, and it’s pretty brilliant – full of vomit, cockroaches and suicide in black and white. The song is due to get a full release as part of Goblin, Tyler’s next solo album which – if you believe what you read – may well be released by XL.
UPDATE: Tyler has today confirmed – if a tweet can be described as confirmation – that he’s signed a one album deal with XL.
“Yes, I Did A One Album Thing With XL. Thats Family. Don’t Trip, Still Have %100 Creative Control Over Raps, Beats, Videos, Covers. Fuck You.”
That’s not the only bit of Tyler related news circulating right now – he’s also delivered a fantastic remix of Lykke Li’s ‘I Follow Rivers’, the first single from the Scandinavian singer’s next album Wounded Rhymes. You can stream that below.
