LCD Soundsystem made their last ever live TV appearance yesterday, on US chat show The Colbert Report.
In addition to performing ‘This Is Happening’ ‘I Can Change’, James Murphy spoke at length to Stephen Colbert about the imminent demise of the band and of his plans for the future, commenting: “There are only three ways to end your career as a rocker: overdose, overstay your welcome, or write Spider-Man: The Musical.”
“It seems like the right thing to do,” he said of his decision to call it a day. “I’m 41, and at a certain point I think it gets embarrassing.”
The appearance follows the announcement of five additional LCD live shows at New York’s Terminal 5 in the run-up to their career-ending set at Madison Square Garden on April 2. According to a lengthy post on the band’s official site, these additional shows were organised in response to the “scalper pieces of fucking shit” who block-bought tickets for the MSG show to sell on for profit.
