We last heard from French Fries on ‘Senta’, a jump-up house bullet with a garbled vocal that made for one of the year’s most Marmite tracks – personally, I think it’s great.

‘Merel’, found at the centrepiece of the Parisian’s new Laquisha EP, finds French Fries in a more refined mood, but only slightly. The percussion’s more syncopated, but the overall rhythm, translated through the bassline is straighter, like a series of adrenaline shots straight to the heart of the floor. Throw in a drawn-out synthline sourced from the Black Sun, and you’re on to a winner.
