Kevin Drumm’s Imperial Distortion has been made available on vinyl for the first time.

Hospital Productions have pressed up the album, originally released on 2xCD in 2008, in a 3xLP edition limited to 300 copies. One of contemporary noise’s most respected figures, guitar/electronics-botherer Drumm has previously collaborated with the likes of Jim O’Rourke, John Butcher and Tony Conrad, and as a solo artist is perhaps best known for the harsh attack of Sheer Hellish Miasma (Mego, 2002, and recently reissued).

Imperial Distortion is a more pensive and frankly beautiful, if no less suffocating, work than SHM. It’s a modern masterpiece of dark ambient music, one that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Aphex’s Selected Ambient Works Vol.2, Lull’s Cold Summer, GAS’s Königsforst, Lustmord & Robert Rich’s Stalker, et al. The album was assembled from various recordings made over the period 1998-2008, and its sleeve (pictured above) was designed by Dominic ‘Prurient’ Fernow (Hospital Prods. boss and sometime Cold Cave member).
