Following the news earlier this year that their leader, Tyler had signed to XL, the rest of Odd Future have, er, signed to Odd Future.
In short: the group have partnered with RED Distribution/Sony to form their own label, Odd Future Records. In the words of a press release sent out earlier today, “Tyler, Hodgy [above], Leftbrain, Domo, Mike, Syd and crew will partner with Sony’s RED Distribution arm to release music-based content consistent with their vision.”
And according to their manager, Chris Clancy, the group “will have 100% creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no 3rd party participation in outside business…RED and Sony know that it’s in everyone’s best interest to maintain the group’s authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There’s no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works.. It’s about to be fun.. and different…”
Note: there’s no Earl Sweatshirt in that above list of acts. The young prodigy of the group has been missing in action since last year (hence all the “free Earl” lyrics and Twitter shouts), but Complex appear to have discovered his whereabouts through some slightly creepy Facebook stalking.
