Hard To Find Mini-mix by New State


Hard To Find: Classic & Rare Remixes is a new compilation series from New State Music that’s focussed on remixes, some legendary and others unfairly overlooked, from 12″ and CD singles released largely during the house era.

It’s released on 2xCD and digital this week, with sleeve notes from DJHistory.com’s Bill Brewster.

‘With Hard To Find,” Brewster writes, “We’ve sent our vinyl archaeologists to sift through the wreckage of acid house, throwing aside the Alison Limerick double packs and long-forgotten Shamen promos to bring you the gold (the only fool’s gold we’d permit would be by Stone Roses). But not only are these the very best of the remixes from the most creative period of house music, we like to think they define it, too. As if that weren’t sufficient, many of them have never been made available on CD before.”

Artists featured include Stereo MCs, Sheena Easton, Sub Sub, Hall & Oates and A Certain Ratio, remixed by the likes of Renegade Soundwave, Underworld, Arthur Baker and Todd Terry. Highlights include Andrew Weatherall‘s legendary treatment of Saint Etienne‘s ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ and The Chemical Brothers‘ mix of Leftfield and Lydon’s ‘Open Up’.

Most of the remixes are from the 90s, but there are some older cuts, like Trevor Horn‘s version of ABC‘s ‘The Look Of Love’, and some more recent, like The Glimmers’ undeniably brilliant take on Roxy Music’s ‘Same Old Scene’.
