We’ve known about this for a while, but Kuedo – a.k.a. Jamie Teasdale, one half of dubstep originals Vex’d – will release his first solo album on Planet Mu this October.

Titled Severant, the album is similar in tone and colour to Kuedo’s two singles for Mu – all deep, futuristic blues and purples; think his labelmates Solar Bears in hi-res – but is structured around rushes of drum machine hi-hats and claps that bear some witness to juke and footwork, but to our ears sound more indebted to hip-hop producers like Shawty Redd, Lex Lugar and Araabmuzik.

Like Machinedrum’s recent Room(s) album for Mu, Severant finds Kuedo exploring a “more automatic way of creating tracks, cutting back on the endless technical options available to the modern producer and rendering them at a quicker pace to reveal a lighter, more truthful music”; in Kuedo’s words, “on the side of modernism”.

We’ve only spent a couple of days with Severant, but it already sounds glorious. Mu will release it on October 17; until then, you can stream samples of each track on their website. Do yourself a favour and listen to ‘Truth Flood’, pronto.
