All live music is best experienced in a church; that’s just a fact. Some music, well, the only place to hear it is a church. Grouper’s, for example.

Liz Harris (pictured above) is one of the US underground’s most celebrated artists, and with good reason: her intimate, wispily psychedelic songs, rendered in a frail, folky singing voice and framed in minimalist guitar lines, subtle electronics and an astonishing amount of reverb, have been evolving to near-perfection over the past five years, and her recent two-part album, A I A, is a softly-spoken masterpiece. The thought of hearing these songs reverberate through the architecture of London’s St Giles-In-The-Fields church, built in 1734, is rather special.

The gig takes place on Thursday 6 October, and is hosted by Upset The Rhythm with support from Chris Forsyth’s Paranoid Cat Band and Olde English Spelling Bee’s Pigeons. Tickets are £10, and available here. Bring hankies.
