Coachella isn’t exactly renowned for keeping things low-key, and for the 2012 edition of the mammoth Californian festival the line-up is, to say the least, star-studded.
What’s more, the festival this years takes place over two weekends, April 13-15, and April 20-22, with identical line-ups for both.
Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg close out the festival with a main stage set on Sunday (April 15 and 22), topping a bill that also features The Weeknd, Justice, Florence + the Machine, The Hives, DJ Shadow, Calvin Harris, Modeselektor, Beirut, La Roux, Company Flow, Metronomy, AraabMUZIK and the newly re-formed At The Drive-In.
The first day of the festival, Friday (April 13 and 20), is headlined by retro blues-punkers The Black Keys, who slowly but surely have become one of the biggest bands on the planet. Don’t ask us how. Swedish House Mafia, Pulp, seminal avant-punks Refused (who appear, like At The Drive-In, to have been prised out of retirement for the occasion), Arctic Monkeys, Mazzy Star, Explosions In The Sky, M83, Cat Power, Amon Tobin, Madness, Jimmy Cliff, The Rapture, The Horrors, Frank Ocean and Yuck are some of the other Friday highlights.
Radiohead lead the charge on Saturday April 14 and 21, with Bon Iver, The Shins, David Guetta, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Jeff Mangum, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, Azealia Banks, A$AP Rocky, Buzzcocks, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Laura Marling, St Vincent and many more.
