Simon Cowell’s latest reality TV venture will be a talent show to “find the world’s greatest DJ”.
The show has been in development for over a year, but does not yet have a title. As you might expect, the intention is for it to operate in a similar way to X Factor, but with DJs rather than singers. In Cowell’s words [via NME], DJ’s are the “new rock stars”; a rising “phenomena” that he intends to capture with this show.
The show will be co-produced by Cowell’s company SyCo and production group Overbrook, which is owned by actor Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Cowell continues, “We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people. As soon as I met Jada and Miguel from Overbrook, I knew they would be our ideal partners. DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show.” Hopefully they like electro-house and dubstep, because they’re about to hear a lot of it.
It’s at this point unknown which TV station will host the show, and who the judges will be, but we’re hoping for Armand Van Helden, Diplo and, in the sad absence of Jimmy Saville, Grandmaster Flash. If Steve Aoki’s anywhere near this thing then we’re out.
