Last month, Philadelphia’s Santigold gave us the eerie ‘Big Mouth’.
Now, Santi White has offered up another cut from her sophomore album Master Of My Make Believe, entitled ‘Disparate Youth’. There have always been nods to 1980s post-punk in White’s music, but here the influence is explicit. Over an XTC style baseline and squalls of guitar, White wards off “stormy weather” and hunts for a “life worth fighting for”. Strident stuff.
‘Disparate Youth’ will be released as an EP on April 8, bundled with remixes from Switch, Amateur Best and The 2 Bears. The album proper will follow on April 23, and is expected to feature contributions from Dave Sitek and Switch.
