Bandshell’s been on our radar for a little while.
He’s recently tidied up his Soundcloud, which used to feature a dozen or so tracks ranging from swatches of disorientating loop-noise to lengthier beat workouts.
The two tracks he’s put up this week cover both bases – ‘LPMF’ is a bracing listen, submerging an incomprehensible monologue in layers of low-grade distortion. ‘Moleskin’, on the other hand, is one for the dancers, warped and degraded chordal loops pinned down with a kind of primitivist take on polite ‘post-dubstep’ syncopations. It’s simple in the way that brutalist architecture is simple – lumbering but hypnotic, and with the same patina of muck you get from years of hard use.
