Moe Tucker – the most iconic standing-up drummer of all time – has had her solo work compiled.

Compared to Lou Reed and John Cale, Tucker’s post-Velvets work has had a fairly negligible profile. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Tucker released the occasional solo LP, and clocked up collaborations with Sonic Youth, Violent Femmes and Half-Japanese. As The Wire note, new comp I Feel So Far Away: Anthology 1974-1998 collects 32 solo pieces from the former VU tom-tom tapper.

Some tracks are fuzzy and lo-fi, others crisp and glossy – but all are threaded through with Tucker’s frail voice. The selection includes covers of pop standards, original material from Tucker, and reworks of classic Velvets numbers. I Feel So Far Away: Anthology 1974-1998 is available now on Sundazed records. The anthology is available as a 2xCD and 3xLP; note that starred tracks only appear on the CD edition of the record
