Most independent labels could learn a thing or two from Stones Throw’s podcast series.
The Los Angeles label’s strike rate is pretty fearsome: the mixes are regular, diverse and invariably fascinating. Following on from last month’s dusty Quakers mix, label head Peanut Butter Wolf has now teamed up with Beastie Boys’ “head grammarian” Mike D for a collection of tracks old and new. As Prefix note, there’s some Kraftwerk, New Order, Isaac Hayes and (oddly) London Philharmonic Orchestra in the mix. You can grab the mix via iTunes, or at the Stones Throw site.
The mix is in honour of Mike D’s curated exhibition at LA’s MOCA Geffen Contemporary museum. Transmission LA: AV Club runs from tomorrow until May 6, and features works by the likes of Mike Mills, Benjamin Jones and Tom Sachs. We’ll let Mike do the talking:
