How about this for a breezy Houston summer jam? On Slim Thug’s ‘My Car’, lilting synths are counterbalanced by propulsive drum rolls and there’s a lightness of touch despite a distinct double-time bounce. At first the song seems dominated by up-and-comer Kirko Bangz, who pulls double duty on the opening verse and sing-song hook, while Doughbeezy’s guest spot is nimble, if less-distinguished, but the track ends up anchored by Thugga’s always-welcome bass growl. When he finally appears, it’s like everything has come full circle
