You wait years for a Company Flow record, and then two come along at once.
Bigg Jus has just given us a peek of his apocalyptic Machines That Make Civilisation Fun. Def Jux kingpin El-P is also set to return to our hi-fis in May with a new album, titled Cancer4Cure. Clash have pointed us towards ‘Tougher Colder Killer’, the latest track to be released from the record.
‘Tougher Colder Killer’ features contributions from Killer Mike (who also has a collaborative full-length with El-P in the works) and Despot. The instrumental is a scuzzy slab of Nine Inch Nails-indebted shock and awe. El-P’s lost none of his righteous fury and tongue-tangling rhythmic dexterity (“it made me want to jump out a window/Tear my face off run through the streets”). In a recent chat with FACT, El-P promised that the album would offer a ‘natural progression’ to his sound. ‘Tougher Colder Killer’ suggests that he’s moving forward at a fair old lick.
