J Dilla’s former group returned earlier this year with their first new material since 2010’s Villa Manifesto.
The trio – currently consisting of original member T3, Young RJ and Illa J (Dilla’s younger brother) – gifted us The Dirty Slums back in March. The likes of De La Soul, Big Sean, Black Milk and Phonte all stopped by on the 20 track set. Hypetrak now point towards a new two-in-one video of ‘God Send’ and ‘Hunger’.
‘God Send’ sees T3 playing the tabilophile; he strolls through a graveyard in the crucifix-heavy clip. The track is similarly wistful, with T3 laying down remembrances over a funereal, pomp-heavy beat. Illa J, meanwhile, helms the duskier ‘Hunger’. He’s on celebratory form, casting aspersions on playground bullies and marvelling at the ‘nonsense’ of being able to earn a living from MCing. Vice and Focus also file verses. Again, no clothes, bankrolls and hoes for these boys: we see Illa J living in a dumpster.
