Antony Hegarty’s nose has been nudging the grindstone in recent months.

With his Meltdown festival coming up, the New York singer has no doubt spent a fair bit of time flicking through his Filofax. Hegarty, we’ve now learned, has been also been putting the finishing touches on a new Antony & The Johnson’s record. Cut The World will be the band’s fifth album, and it’s not your usual sort of A&TJ release.

Cut The World assembles live symphonic versions of tracks from across Hegarty’s catalogue. The Danish National Chamber Orchestra provide the accompaniment, and Nico Muhly, Rob Moose, Maxim Moston all contribute arrangements. Although the vast majority of the material on the record has been released at some point before, the title track is 100% brand new.

Cut The World is due on August 6, courtesy of Rough Trade. Elizabeth Fraser, Marc Almond and William Basinski are among the acts booked for the Meltdown festival.
