Back in September, the newly convivial The Stone Roses revealed they’d signed a fresh record deal. Reports suggest that new material from the band has already been committed to tape.

NME claim that The Stone Roses have been in the studio laying as-yet unheard new music. The news comes courtesy of Chris Coghill, writer of a new film based around the band’s infamous 1990 Spike Island show. In Coghill’s words, the band have “at least three or four new tracks recorded”.

Coghill’s film – a self-described “love letter to The Stone Roses” – follows a fledgling band on a Manchester council estate. The band themselves have given the film their blessing and rank Coghill as a friend, so his claims have some backbone to them. Coghill played Bez in Michael Winterbottom’s loopy Tony Wilson biopic 24 Hour Party People.

The Stone Roses’ big homecoming gigs take place at Heaton Park on June 30, June 31 and July 1. More importantly, some photos of the band are about to go on display in a shopping centre.
