In 1994, the Sabres of Paradise released Haunted Dancehall.
Fast forward to 2012, and Toby Ridler is taking that phrase very seriously. Solar Dreams / Neon Decay is Ridler – a.k.a. Becoming Real – ‘s most substantial work yet, a seven-track mini-album that twists the prickly, arpeggiating eski-style melodies that he’s pretty close to perfecting into more radical shapes: dancefloor r’n’b (‘Snow Drift Love’), pranged-out grime (‘Equinox’) and yes, dancehall (‘Work Me’, feat. Lady Chann). You can stream the whole thing below.
Solar Dreams / Neon Decay is out now through Not Even.
