Red Bull Music Academy have run a piece by Energy Flash and Retromania writer Simon Reynolds, documenting his favourite crossover moments between UK garage and r’n’b.

The two genres flirted with each other throughout the late ’90s and early ’00s, with countless classic UK garage singles either straight edits of r’n’b (El-B’s remixes of Brandy) or linked through sampling (Groove Chronicles’ ‘Stone Cold’). Reynolds, famously, knows his onions better than most when it comes to this sort of thing, and it’s the sort of piece you really should take some time out to read.
