Having sold out his first wave of Brixton Academy tickets at Justin Bieber speed, Four Tet has spent the last month reminding us quite why he’s such a popular proposition.
The man born Kiran Hebden floated the excellent ‘Ocaras’/’Jupiter’ at the start of May, then followed up with a very classy take on Neneh Cherry And The Thing’s version of ‘Dream Baby Dream’. As Hypetrak note, Hebden’s now flung up yet another new track, titled ‘128 Harps’.
It’s definitely the strangest of Hebden’s new tracks – a sort of hypertrophied, swollen version of UK garage. A welter of strange percussive textures and tumescent bass, ‘128 Harps’ sounds like Hebden’s been having fun with the Audio Reverse button. Still, despite the oddness, ‘128 Harps’ frequently feels comfortingly familiar. When the plucked harps and twinkling synth tones arrive, the track sounds like it could have come straight off of Rounds. You also get a couple of gut-troubling drops – watch out, Lunice. The track is listed as TEXT016 on his Soundcloud, so we’re expecting a proper release at some point in the near(ish) future.
