Teenage Atlanta rapper Lil Phat has been murdered.

Clash and others report that Phat – real name Melvin Vernell III – was shot several times yesterday (June 7) while parking his car outside the Northside Hospital Women’s Center, and died in hospital. A motive for the shooting, which took place around 6.40pm, is at this time unknown, but police are searching for “two black males … seen running from the location at the time of the shooting.”

Vernell was best known for his work with Trill Entertainment (other artists to work with Trill include Webbie – who confirmed Phat’s passing today – and Lil Boosie), contributing to various Trill compilations and mixtapes, and has collaborated with Soulja Boy and more.
