Update: We’ve just spoken to 4AD, who “aren’t quite sure” what prompted the post, but claim that Haunted Graffiti are “still very much together”.
A Facebook post by lo-fi fay Ariel Pink suggests that he might have fired his erstwhile backing group.
It’s only been four days since Pink announced Mature Themes, his new album as Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti on 4AD. As Exclaim report, Pink may well have suddenly called time on his band. On his Facebook page, the singer wrote: “BROKE UP THE BAND TODAY. HAUNTED GRAFFITI R.I.P”.
Pink’s an inveterate pranker, so it’s worth treating the news with a degree of caution. The ‘Haunted Graffiti’ line-up has previously included the likes of Gary War and John Maus, but became relatively settled in 2009. If the news is true, it at least opens up the beguiling possibility that he might be hiring Dam-Funk permanently.
