Back in 2003, The Cinematic Orchestra released Man With A Movie Camera, a bespoke score for the 1929 silent documentary film of the same name.

This same fascination with film (also explored on their Ma Fleur faux-ST) is now manifesting itself in a new form. TCO mainman Jason Swinscoe is curating a new series of compilations, each inviting contemporary artists to offer musical spins on great film works. Ninja Tune are set to release the first volume in the run, and it boasts some cracking contributors.

In Motion #1 will feature revisions and new recordings by Austrian upstart Dorian Concept and resident Brainfeeder pianist Austin Peralta. Adventurous troubadour Grey Reverend is also on the record, and The Cinematic Orchestra themselves also contribute fresh material.

The project will also get a live airing on June 30, when Swinscoe and friends will take over the Barbican for a night of film-inspired japery. Dorian Concept, Austin Peralta, Kutmah and Grey Reverend will also all be appearing.

In Motion #1 is due on Ninja Tune on June 25.
